Being shortlisted for a British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) Award is recognition of exceptional creativity, design thinking and execution.
We were delighted to learn that Vraic, designed by TIBBATTS.ABEL, has been shortlisted for a BIID Award, recognising the strength of the overall design concept and the attention to detail present throughout the project.
Chantelle Lighting was proud to contribute to the scheme through the design and manufacture of a bespoke decorative lighting installation that sits at the heart of the venue’s dining space.
While the recognition rightly celebrates the outstanding work of TIBBATTS.ABEL, it is always rewarding to see projects we have collaborated on receive recognition from one of the industry’s most respected organisations.
A design-led hospitality environment
Vraic is a hospitality destination designed around atmosphere, experience and connection. The interior balances contemporary architectural elements with carefully selected materials and finishes to create a space that feels both refined and welcoming.
Working alongside the design vision developed by TIBBATTS.ABEL, our brief was to create a decorative lighting feature that would become a focal point within the venue whilst remaining sympathetic to the wider scheme.
The installation needed to contribute to the atmosphere of the space, create visual interest throughout the day and evening, and reinforce the identity of the venue.
Creating the feature
Positioned above the main dining area, the bespoke installation combines handcrafted acrylic elements in rich amber and olive tones, suspended around oversized acrylic lamp forms.
Inspired by organic shapes found in nature, each glass component was individually crafted before being arranged into a flowing composition designed to create movement and texture within the space.
The feature was carefully developed to work in changing lighting conditions. During daylight hours, natural light passes through the acrylic, revealing subtle colour variation and detail. In the evening, the illuminated installation introduces warmth and intimacy, helping to define the guest experience.
This duality was a key consideration throughout the design process, ensuring the feature remained impactful regardless of the time of day.
Supporting the wider interior concept
One of the strengths of the project lies in the way the lighting integrates with the wider design scheme created by TIBBATTS.ABEL.
Rather than functioning solely as a light source, the installation contributes to the narrative of the space. Its scale helps anchor the dining area beneath the dramatic ceiling height, while the handcrafted acrylic introduces colour, texture and visual rhythm throughout the interior.
The result is a feature that feels woven into the architecture of the project rather than applied as an afterthought.
Recognition from the BIID
The British Institute of Interior Design Awards celebrate excellence in professional interior design and recognise projects that demonstrate creativity, innovation and exceptional attention to detail.
The shortlist recognition for TIBBATTS.ABEL’s work on Vraic is a testament to the quality of the overall design concept and the collaborative effort behind the project.
We are proud that our bespoke lighting installation forms part of a hospitality environment receiving recognition at this level and congratulate the entire team involved in bringing the project to life.
The value of collaboration
Projects such as Vraic demonstrate the impact that can be achieved when lighting is considered as an integral part of the design process from the outset.
By bringing together interior designers, specialist manufacturers and craftspeople, it becomes possible to create spaces that are not only functional, but memorable and emotionally engaging.
We look forward to seeing Vraic continue to receive the recognition it deserves and wish TIBBATTS.ABEL the very best for the BIID Awards.
