Blazing the trail for future dining, T.E.D (Think.Eat.Drink) Restaurant, puts the green into gourmet. Developed by Jamie Grainger-Smith, whose impressive resume includes setting up Fifteen with Jamie Oliver and co-founding the award-winning Acorn House and The Waterhouse restaurants, T.E.D offers outstanding ethically sourced British produce within a stunning yet environmentally conscious setting.

T.E.D aims to create a feel-good food and drink experience without compromising on quality and style or its commitment to the customer and the planet.

The challenge

Housed over two floors, the striking 100 seat setting was to be designed and built to the highest standard using sustainably sourced salvaged furniture, fixtures and fabrics from suppliers handpicked for their eco-sensitive practives.

T.E.D is based in a Victorian era whlist using modern materials, for example combining a lava bar top with reclaimed tiles.

Lighting was to be key to creating a warm, welcoming feel to T.E.D whilst complementing the other materials used in the refurbishment.

"I wanted the lighting to be modern yet classical," said Jamie Grainger-Smith. "I was on the lookout for something different which would create a real quality feel to T.E.D and become a talking point for customers."

The Solution

After researching a range of different lighting solutions, Jamie's design team recommended he look at Chantelle Lighting's District range which is inspired by 19th and 20th century industrial architecture.

"I loved the vibe to the District range," said Jamie. "The different fittings worked really well combined with each other in different colours and I felt that they were exactly what we were looking for at T.E.D. I love how the introduce colour to the venue which is matched by other furnishings such as our orange, electric blue and black recycled cushioned chairs and pre-loved green and blue patterned tiles.

The result

Jamie chose different fittings from the District range to be hung together in small clusters. Using these fittings in different colour finishes creates a unique, fresh look. Jamie added:

"The District lights were perfect for T.E.D. Since we opened the doors to customers, they have been really complimentary about all of our furnishings and fittings - especially the lights."
