Built in the image of a traditional oast house, Spinningfields' premier drinking establishment, The Oast House offers the most exciting, exclusive and cosmopolitan range of ales and beers in the North West along with some of the worlds finest champagnes and wines. The bohemian food offering consists of locally sourced produce from an interesting and intriguing deli counter, coupled with hot smoked food, straight off the barbecue.

The challenge

As a purpose built venue, The Oast House was designed to increase footfall to the Spinningfields area of Manchester - developed in the 2000s as a business, retail and residential area of the city.

Designer Paul Danson was tasked by owners New World Trading Company to create an authentic 16th century Oast House building.

The Solution

Paul provided the team at Chantelle Lighting with an overview of his ideas for the development and they set about sourcing a wide range of materials to be used in the bespoke feature lights, including authentic farming materials such as a tractor wheel.

Paul said: "I have worked with Chantelle Lighting on numerous projects; the team has the ability to transform my ideas from paper to reality. I tasked them with manufacturing a number of different styles of lights for the venue and each adds to the overall appearance of the venue."

The result

Entering The Oast House of 2014 is now like taking a step back in time to an original oast house of the 16th century - but with a modern twist and the lighting is one of the main attractions.

Anthony Holly is renowned for his ability to turn a reclaimed find into a vintage lighting masterpiece. Anthony sourced many of the items that were used in the lighting creations himself - including the accessories that make up the statement tractor wheel fitting and the bulkhead lights above the bar.

The unusual tractor wheel fitting has gained notoriety as being one of the first waves of industrial lighting to hit the city. Many people now refer to the Oast House as "the bar with the big wheel light" and it is now one of Manchesters most popular drinking establishments.
