Switching off the lights on 2017
2017: the year that Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States of America, the new 12-sided £1 coin was launched in the UK and Prince Harry got engaged to Meghan Markle.
But it was also the year that the use of interesting materials and a splash of colour took the design industry by storm and played a big part in many our lighting ranges and bespoke products.
We take a look back on the year’s lighting highlight…
Industrial lighting continued to be a popular theme for bars and restaurants in 2017, but this year there has been a shift towards cleaner and brighter industrial light fittings. We experimented with this modern twist on the popular theme by introducing some neutral, earthy tones to some of our products and using alternative metals to create rich tones and warmth.
Marble fixtures and fittings have been very popular with designers this year and it is an effect which looks fantastic in two pendants we have created.
Polished and brushed brass is also being seen more and more in interior design projects, popular because it exudes warmth and complements a range of other materials well. Whether it’s used on a small wall fitting or a bespoke feature chandelier, brass really does have the ability to add a touch of glamour to a venue.
Finally, our new concrete wall light fittings and table lamps are helping to create a clean, striking look in a number of projects. Combining brilliantly with smooth wood fittings, it’s a material which is bringing a whole new element to the industrial theme.
What’s been your ‘must use’ material of 2017 and what are you predicting to be the next big thing in 2018?
